In 1940 he became the fifth Bishop of Madagascar,〔''Ecclesiastical News Bishop In Madagascar'', The Times 22 April 1940; pg. 9; Issue 48596; col F〕 a position he held for a decade. Returning to England he was the vicar of Finedon and an assistant bishop in the Diocese of Peterborough.
